It is a 3 step process, goes as follows:
- The attacker generates a key and corresponding public key is places it into the malware before it is released.
- After the malware is released, the cryptoviral extortion attack is performed on victim’s data to encrypt it. Now, a message is appeared to the user that includes the asymmetric ciphertext and how to pay the ransom. The victim sends the asymmetric ciphertext along with the payment amount to an attacker.
- And finally when the attacker receives the payment, the decrypting key is sent to the user thereby completing the crypto virology attack.
Cryptocurrency Ransomware Protection
Collecting ransom money was a much insecure attempt in old days. It associated such ways as suitcases full of cash and wire transfers (which was easy to track).
Since the cryptocurrencies are introduced, and it’s has been easier to become a hacker anyone can sign up to bitcoin wallet in few clicks, it works really easy to access real world.
